Weekly Blog Post 1 – 1/21-2/5 

 

I have decided to take this digital media class this semester not only because it is required for my major, which is Advertising and Public Relations, but also because I think I can really benefit from it in the advertising field in the future.   

Going into this class I truly did not know what to expect as I had never really taken a class like this before that is completely reliant on technology only. My old high school did not offer anything like this class. Coming into the class I can definitely see my confidence growing each class that we have had. I am still very unfamiliar with the software we are using. I had heard of adobe because I started to take a digital art class last semester before I dropped it and realised that digital art is just not for me and I would probably be way better off in a digital media class.  

I really enjoyed learning about firefly as I had never heard of it before this class. I thought It was a very interesting way to generate AI images that is different from Chat GPT and Gemini. I also really like that it is ethical as all their images are already from Adobe, so there is no copywrite issues. I can completely see this being the future of some advertising campaigns, as I am aware that AI is slowly becoming more and more advanced. I really enjoyed the activity we did where we created a lion with firefly and tried to make it look like it was a sketched ad for a color pencils company. It was very interesting to see what everyone came up with and how different ours were from each other even though we all used the same prompt.  

I liked becoming familiar with all the software as I think that was a necessary class to have, dedicated to helping us feel more comfortable with it all. I had never really used any of it before except photoshop once or twice and Adobe illustrator in my digital art class.  

I did encounter some technological issues where firefly would not allow me to generate images because it claimed I did not have an account even though I was signed in, however I was assisted, and it worked for me on my next try. I was also having some issues with my dropbox but that was resolved quickly as well. It was comforting to know that I was not the only one that was encountering some issues as I noticed some of the class was also struggling.  

I still think I have a lot to learn and a long way to go before I am completely confident and comfortable with all the software we are going to use, however my confidence grows by each class. It has already been a very interesting first two weeks and I am excited to see what the rest of the semester has to offer as I appreciate how different this class is from the classes I took last semester and am taking now.

I was having trouble with my Adobe Illustrator already so I had to use a lot of Tuesdays class time to work on my logo and tracing it into Adobe Illustrator.   Maia Yeomanson Perez   Weekly Blog 8 – 03/27     This week we continued with working on finding pictures for our three chosen words. Since we were tasked to narrow down our word options from 5 words to three, this made it a little bit easier for me to focus in on the exact type of logo that I want and what my vison was for my logo.   I was a little bit frustrated because I had made a folder to put my 5 pictures in for my three words, and for orga nizational purposed I had named the pictures the word that they corresponded to. However, there was little to no instruction on how we should format these images, and I was told I have to re do every picture and try again with a different format, which reallt didnt make much sense to me.   I continued to think about color and texture and what I wanted my logo to look like.   Maia Yeomanson Perez   Weekly Blog Post 2 – 2/13     This past week in class we have worked on becoming more familiar with Adobe Illustrator and how to use it. However, I was unable to make it to class on Thursday because I had a really bad headache, so I missed this lesson.   As a result of this, I was a bit lost trying to do the homework that was assigned to us where we had to trace different drawings and shapes using the Adobe Illustrator pen tool. I was also having some trouble downloading Adobe Illustrator onto my laptop because for some reason it would just refuse to download. It said I had too much storage but even after deleting a ton of different photos, documents, and files, it still would not download   I decided to use the downstairs computer lab in the Cass building to work on this assignment instead.
