This past week in class we have worked on becoming more familiar with Adobe Illustrator and how to use it. However, I was unable to make it to class on Thursday because I had a really bad headache, so I missed this lesson.
As a result of this, I was a bit lost trying to do the homework that was assigned to us where we had to trace different drawings and shapes using the Adobe Illustrator pen tool. I was also having some trouble downloading Adobe Illustrator onto my laptop because for some reason it would just refuse to download. It said I had too much storage but even after deleting a ton of different photos, documents, and files, it still would not download
I decided to use the downstairs computer lab in the Cass building to work on this assignment instead. I was having trouble with the second assignment at first because I could not figure out how to make a curve. Once I had finally figured this out I was struggling on how to make my shapes actually stay within the lines. It was very meticulous but It was very good practice as now I feel much more confident with the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator.
I still feel like I have a lot of improvement to make with Adobe illustrator as a whole, I think this is a good start. I had never used anything like this before besides in my digital art class, which I had a hard time with. I am honestly looking more forward to moving onto other tools such as photoshop and the other Adobe applications just because I am not very good with drawing digitally. I get frustrated with it way easier and its not something I see myself pursuing in the future. Still, I understand that it is an important thing to learn and improve on, and it is always good to be well-rounded.
Yesterday in class we were introduced to calligrams and told we are going to make some. From my understanding this involves a picture of yourself either made from individual meaningful words that you can choose, or the words are plastered across the picture itself. I am interested to see what this new Adobe Illustrator project has to offer and what new tools I can learn about. I think it is a very interesting concept, and I do have a lot more to learn about it. From my perspective right now calligrams look super complicated to make, but I am sure that will change once I actually get into the assignment and learn how to do everything.
We were also assigned to write a letter to our future selves for 20 years from now. I really like the concept of this assignment as I feel like it's very unique and If I were to ever remember, I would love to open this letter that I am about to write in 20 years from now. We were also told to take a few headshots of ourselves for our calligram and bring them to class.
